Dutch Game Table with Desk, 18th century
Here’s a boutique piece, an 18th century Dutch game table with inlaid triple-flip top and writing desk combo. Covered all over in handlaid marquetry in multiple woods over a solid mahogany base, stands on inlaid cabriole legs ending on slipper feet, one of which gatelegs out to support the multiple use flip tops. The first game table is a choice of either checkers or chess tables, all parquetry inlay of course.
Feeling lucky? Turn the support one angle and the middle flip is an inlaid card table with chip trays and vintage brick-red velvet surface. Did so well at cards you want to tell someone 18th c. twitter-style? Flip the third top to reveal an amazing inlaid writing desk that pops up with the push of a brass button and locks in place.
And there’s the inlaid folding book or paper stand fitted to the center top section, five drawers under five cubbyholes and the same velvet writing surface.
This is all finished in a nice vintage French polish. The Dutch game table is just out of a NY estate after 31 years owned-purchased in New Orleans in 1990.
This is a very unusual, gorgeous and unique piece of the 18th century.
The table measures 29.5ʺW × 14.75ʺD × 31.25ʺH.
